jojie painting shirts in Manado, Indonesia (1995)
"As an artist
specializing in computer graphics design, I focus on digital
animation, caricatures, photo enhancement and web development. I
have had two art exhibits and four photo exhibits so far, and if my schedule permits, would
like to go for another. I have no formal art training, except
that when I started holding crayons and a pen when I was 2, I never
let go.
My life as a writer and artist started
by then.
I've been working as a creative artist in my home
office since 1995, when I decided to pursue a freelance career after
a successful project stint in Indonesia. My sets of computers and
upgraded equipment are culled from blood, sweat and tears. Having
built a list of clientele from corporations, government agencies, to
non-government organizations, I have been doing public relations
which include image building, packaging, and creative design
concepts from websites to promotional materials.
Some of the logos I created can be popularly seen
around the city: Araw ng Dabaw, Wow Mindanao, Bioessence, Caracoles
Festival, JEWM Eggs, Pacific Harbor and others. I have also created
billboard designs for the LGU of WAO, Lanao del Sur and Koronadal,
South Cotabato.
I
am proficient in using programs like Adobe Photoshop, and other
software programs. I also do video editing and presentations. Most
of the time, I prefer to keep to myself and work at home from
midnight to dawn. Those who know me well (particularly my favorite
client, Regional Director Sonia Garcia of Department of Tourism XI)
calls me up at these ungodly hours to check on my projects for her.
Sometimes, buddies (like Ian Garcia, Stella Estremera and Sandy
Rabadon) just sends text messages out of the blue because they know
I am still awake.
Apart from hosting big events to organizing press
conferences, I have been doing summer art workshops for children,
personality development for students, basic digital photography for
employees, and computer art design for organizations. I have
traveled to Indonesia and Hong Kong for projects with non-government
organizations under USAID and World Wildlife Fund, and am supporting
the Philippine Eagle Foundation as its first website designer. I was
fortunate enough to experience working closely and assisting in
minor chores for the National Geographic Team during their
documentary about marine environment issues in Mindanao; with the
BBC World crew in Coron, Palawan; and My Lonely Planet for CNN
in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
I love creating and designing for
myself and others. It's as if my mind is a bottomless vacuum filled
with so many ideas, I am literally bursting at the seams (my excuse
for gaining weight lately)... "
